workshops & shop where craft and design meet

That was the subtitle of Makelij. Makelij was a self initiated two-month event about craft and design in Genk's city center. Me and my longtime work partner Marie got the idea of organizing an event to celebrate design and their creators. The City of Genk was open to our idea so there we went.

The event consisted of two parts:
In the extensive workshop program designers and experts initiated the participants to make their own design objects workings with traditional techniques and materials. We worked with designers such as Sment on making objects out of concrete, La Cambre fashion graduate Emanulle Lebas on creating sandals, Redopapers on book binding, Salvatore Caltabelotta on weaving, ...

In the Makelij designshop you could find handmade design from home and abroad and the necessary materials to get started to craft and design yourself. Not only did we sell the pieces of the workshop hosts, we also worked together with manufacturers to sell their deadstock in fabrics, leather, ... and Belgian and Dutch designers such as Piet Stockmans, Mieke Dierckx, Roche Rouge, Lore Langendries, ... and we even had the honor to sell the handbag archive of designer Michaël Verheyden. We made a lot of people happy and had a lot of Christmas parties lighten up with our unique gifts!
